Okaloosa County Tax Collector Ben Anderson would like to inform property owners that the deadline to receive a 2% discount on property taxes has been extended to Monday, February 2, 2015. Anderson says “Because the January deadline falls on a Saturday, Florida Statutes permit our Office to extend the deadline for this early payment discount. Thus far, through November (4%) and December (3%), the early payment discount has saved Okaloosa County Taxpayers over $6.1 million dollars!” Anderson continues, “Anytime we can help our Citizens keep more money in their pockets, rather than in the hands of government, I think that is a good thing.”
There are several payment options; the fastest, most convenient way to ensure payments are posted by 5:00 pm Monday, February 2, is to pay online using E-check, it’s FREE! Another option is to place it in the drop box at any of the 6 locations around the county, or visit any of those Branches and have it processed by an Agent.
Anderson says, “Paying online via our website is a secure transaction. Our website is easy to navigate and there’s no waiting in line. To pay property taxes online, visit www.OkaloosaTax.com. If you need help, just call us and we’ll walk you through it.” Property taxes become delinquent if not paid by March 31, 2015.
“For Property Owners not already on the Installment Tax Payment Plan,” Anderson says, “I encourage you to sign up. This plan allows the Taxpayer to spread out their property tax payments into 4 smaller tax payments over the year, ultimately easing the burden of one lump sum payment. The Installment Tax Payment Plan participants receive a 3.3% discount.” He continues, “It is just one of the many services we offer to make doing business with us something that will save time and money.”
