Tax Collector Ben Anderson is pleased to announce that his Offices collected $145,000,000 in property tax, during the month of November. This represents 72.5% of the 2013 Tax Roll for Okaloosa County, a new record for the percentage of collection by this Office. Anderson says, “This is a joint effort by our entire Staff to make things easier for our Citizens through Online payments, Free Echecks, and setting up tables in our lobbies to allow a quick drop off of tax payments without waiting in line.”
“Due to the 4% early payment discount allowed by Florida Statutes, our property owners saved over $5,800,000 off their tax bills. Not only is that a lot of money, but I am delighted when the Taxpayer gets to keep more of their hard earned money. We will continue to make things more efficient and easier for our Citizens.” Anderson stated.
“Internet transactions have increased this year with 52.5% of accounts being paid online; and payments using the free E-check option increased by 30% over November 2012.” He continues, “For those who missed the November discount, the December early payment discount is 3% and will still be a valuable savings if paid by December 31st.”
“One of the many services we offer at the Tax Collector’s Office is the Installment Tax Payment Plan,” says Anderson, “which allows the Taxpayer to spread out 4 smaller tax payments over the course of the tax year. This payment option eases the burden of one lump sum payment in November, yet still allows for a 3.3% discount.” He continues, “I hope more property owners utilize this good service.”
